Geraldine Winner’s ‘Goodbyes’ in Knightsbridge Robbery Ordeal

LATE film director Michael Winner’s widow, Geraldine Winner has recounted how she said her ‘goodbyes’ during a 2-hour robbery ordeal at her £4m Knightsbridge flat on Saturday 10 October 2015. A Metropolitan Police spokesman confirmed the break-in and said there had been no arrests, adding: “Police were called to a flat in SW7 at about 2am on Saturday, October 10, to reports of an aggravated burglary at the property.” Mrs Winner, 77, is believed to have inherited around £20m after her husband died in 2013, downsizing from their palatial Holland Park home to the flat near the Household of Cavalry Barracks. The neighbourhood would normally be regarded as one of London’s safest, but Mrs Winner believes she was targeted by a sole female assailant. “I am supposed to be in the safest place in London. Wanted: Ryan Byrne did not complain about being let off early from jail A violent robber released in error from a nine-year sentence has posed for a selfie in front of a Police van in the West End mocking appeals to apprehend him. Ryan Byrne, 34, can be seen in the photograph grinning as he pointed to the van parked outside a casino in Wardour Street Soho. He was freed from Wandsworth Prison with up to 18 months still to serve of his original sentence. A prison source told The Sun: “Byrne was sitting in his cell having a cigarette last Wednesday when he was told he was free to leave. He couldn’t believe it. But he didn’t protest and has been enjoying his freedom.” Byrne was jailed after holding up a branch of Boots in Ruislip, west London, in 2007 making away with £3,800. Police have checked his mother’s house in Acton, west London but he still remains on the run.An HM Prison Service spokesman said: “Releases in error are very rare but regrettable occurrences. Man Steals Rare Mayfair Bronze with Rolled-up Paper

A man has pulled off an audacious theft under the noses of the owners of a rare bronze statue valued at £40,000 from a Mayfair gallery after tucking it under a rolled-up newspaper and leaving calmly. The work by artist Elisabeth Frink titled Horizontal Birman I dates from 1962 was stolen from the Beaux Arts gallery on Maddox Street in the heart of Mayfair. It is a limited edition piece and is inscribed on the underside with Frink 10/10. Co-owner of the gallery Patricia Singh said the suspect had been casually walking around the gallery before the theft. She said: “He was walking around with a rolled-up newspaper and it was on a high shelf, so we rather assumed it was safe, and there was someone in the room the whole time. “It’s to my intense chagrin, we should be more vigilant, but you learn.” Police have released a CCTV image of a man (left) they would like to trace in connection with the theft.
